CAMIER BACK ON PODIUM AT MILLER

Aprilia rider Leon Camier put in two superb performances at Miller Motorsports Park in the United States on Sunday. From 11th on the grid the Brit had to fight his way through the pack twice to finish just off of the podium in Race One. This was followed by a 2nd place finish in Race Two to see the 24 year old take his second podium of the season.

From his mid-grid slot, Leon took to the inside of the first corner at the start of Race One, helping the 2009 British Superbike Champion to slot into 5th by the end of the first lap. By lap 9 of 21 Leon had managed to pass Troy Corser and Noriyuki Haga to sit in 3rd. Looking set for a podium finish, a problem saw Leon lose vital time and track position, dropping him to 7th. A brave effort saw Leon cut his way back through the field to eventually finish in 4th.

An even better getaway to Race Two saw Leon immediately go from 11th to 2nd in just the first couple of corners. Although not able to match the pace of ex-MotoGP rider and Championship leader Carlos Checa out in front, Leon’s consistently fast race pace ensured he was unmatched by any other rider out on track, finishing ahead of his teammate Max Biaggi by over 1.5s.

After Race Two Leon commented, “That’s what we needed! A weekend that ends on the right note! I was quick in Race 1 and I would surely have battled for a rostrum. It’s too bad that a problem engaging the gears made me lose some precious seconds, and I had to settle for fourth place. In Race 2 I got off to a good start, behind Checa straight away, and I kept up a good pace although it was impossible to catch him up. I have to thank the guys on the Team and Aprilia, they also deserve credit for these results. Now we need to look forward. The goal is to keep going in this direction”.

Just four points off of 5th place in the Championship standings, Leon heads to Misano for the 6th round of the series in a fortnight’s time.
