Now, some of you might be asking yourself, who are the two in 10 that don’t have any bad habits to speak of? And, what are the most common bad driving behaviours? We certainly did. The most popular bad driving habit-eating food or drinking beverages while behind the wheel-is committed by 2 in 5 drivers on the roads, followed closely by speeding, admitted to by 1 in 3 drivers.

More Americans Driving Further Over Holidays

According to the Allstate Good Hands Roadside Assistance Survey, 45 percent of American drivers plan on going on a drive at least two hours long this holiday season. Separate research by AAA suggests this Thanksgiving will see 42.5 million Americans travel at least 50 miles from home, 4 percent more than last year.

According to AAA, this is the first significant increase in holiday travel this year, occurring largely because Americans who have been skipping travel now feel the desire to see their families more strongly than they feel economic worries.

Auto Insurance Rates May Be Affected by Drowsy Drivers

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safetys 2011 safety culture survey reveals that, in the past month, about one-third of respondents got behind the wheel when sufficiently tired that they had trouble keeping their eyes open, despite 96 percent saying drowsy driving is an unacceptable behavior.

A 2005 poll by the National Sleep Foundation determined that 60 percent of drivers would admit to driving while sleepy in the past year, and 37 percent confessed they had fallen asleep while doing so.

Auto insurance rates drop to an all-time low in California

The rates have dropped by 11% in 2011 which is an incredible 31% low since 2009. The drivers have also been given the option of paying as they drive. These recorded statistics indicate that the insurance rates are much lower here compared to other parts of the country. There are a number of reasons for this surprising trend in a world of rising auto insurance rates. The most significant one is the lowering of number of accidents on the road. The numbers dropped from 4304 in 2005 to 3075 in the year 2009.

Traffic Crashes Cost More Than Congestion

The expenses incurred from vehicle collisions on the nations roads, almost $300 billion annually, are more than three times the $97.7 billion that congestion costs, according to a report released by AAA.

The burdens associated with congestion are top of mind for many Americans as they travel to and from work each day, said AAA Chicago president Brad Roeber. However, at $300 billion annually, crashes cost our society more than three times the amount of congestion.
